Metha and Melisa series painting #6 picking up the wild rose

Image
*Metha and Melisa painting series* # 6 - picking up wild red roses. When we were in grade school, during the weekends in the morning, Metha and I were often walking along the garden at Bumi Siliwangi (known as Bumi Isola now). The days were still young and we could still feel the mist and the crisp in the air. Our favorite place to visit was the garden of wild flowers. Depending on the season, we would notice different varieties of blooming flowers. But our favorite was always the wild red roses.  We would pick some stems of red roses and collect them in our small baskets. We sometimes would string flowers together to make crowns and wear them pretending to be princess of the day while walking proudly. The smell of the wild roses gave us an appreciation of the wonderful nature.  My painting shows us happily walking by the garden and stoping to get few wild red roses.  Another memory of my childhood time, spending with my dear friend, Metha. I hope you like the painting I ...

Metha and Melisa painting series #4 - The memory of catching butterfly

Image
When we were in 3rd grade of elementary school, during the holy month of Muslim Ramadan, school’s activities were reduced to respect the fasting month.  During that period, one of the more relaxing assignments I always remember was going to Bumi Siliwangi (now called Bumi Isola), and catching the monarch butterflies. We would bring them to school and observe their life cycle behaviors.  This painting shows Metha and I were catching butterflies and admiring red wild flowers in our cute hats.  It was a memory that last forever.  I hope you like this painting. Melisa,

Metha and Melisa painting series #3 - Guava (Jambu) tree climbing

Image
Besides Metha’s family and mine being neighbors, we also had a friend named  Fenty who lived three houses from me. On Fenty’s yard grew an alluring guava tree (pohon jambu) that always fascinated us to climb especially when the fruits were ripen.  Like most children, we were obsessed with tree climbing, and we did often climbed Fenty’s tree especially when the jambu were ready for picking.  My painting illustrates Fenty, Metha and I climbed the guava tree. It sort of shows how children and tree climbing are a match in heaven. Melisa,

Metha and Melisa painting series #2 : The memory of kite flying

Image
# 2 - The memory of kite flying Because we were neighbors in elementary school, Metha and I often played together after school.  Our favorite past time activity was flying kites together in the open area by the crop field of rice and corn.  We would pass along the river where sometimes we would watch ducks marching besides us.  When we reached the open area, we would set up our kites and flew them in the sky for hours...We would run, giggle and just have the best of time. On our way back, I usually stopped at Metha’s house with her mom greeting us and serving us delicious fruit syrup drink before going home.  I will never forget my time of flying kites with my dear friend Metha. And my painting is the illustration of those fond memories.  Melisa,

Metha and Melisa series panting #1 : Kolam Ikan Bumi Siliwangi

Image
# 1 - Kolam Ikan Bumi Siliwangi  I made this painting for my friend Metha. She was a friend who was always fun to be with. We seemed to always be there to support each other, sharing our happiness and sorrow.  I painted this picture as she and I, wearing cute hats, sitting and relaxing, feeding fish at a place we visited very often. A place that used to be called kolam ikan (fish pond) Bumi Siliwangi.  The place is now called UPI, Bumi Isola. Oh, how I missed those old days. Metha, thank you dear, for being such a good friend, Always. Melisa,

A story of friendship and connection:My friends, Velly, Dessy and Refita were inseparable in elementary school. They did many things together, whether having slumber parties, doing homework or chilling out by walking to spend the day.My painting depicts their walking up the hill, then sitting together at the top having snacks. In their adults life now, they all live far apart, but I am sure they are still very close at heart. Their long lasting friendship is truly beautiful and remarkable...I often call them “Tiga Sekawan!”My brother, Buddy Rahardjo, took the photograph during his hike at Pec-Tromeja Mountain, located at the triple border between Austria, Italy and Slovenia within the Julian Alps region. I used his photo for the background of this painting. I hope you enjoy my painting.

One of my most memorable activities during my high school years was walking in the woods with my friends. We enjoyed the fresh air and had leisure activities after the stress of being at school all day.  This painting is my expression of those fun days in the woods. The background of this painting is from the Litchfield hill, Central Connecticut - USA My brother, Buddy Rahardjo, took this photo during his routine hiking in October 2020. I hope you guys enjoy my painting. #watercolor #catair #autumn #art #painting #drawing
